These picture were taken in Vermont where my dad moved to after he was
diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, about 15 years ago. I go up to
visit and photograph every few months. I tend to photograph my Dad
outside because the landscape is very important to him--it’s why he
moved there--and to me, because I have a very emotional response to
nature and photographing what I respond to helps me to communicate what
I’m feeling. My Dad and I work very collaboratively when I take the
pictures of him. In some pictures he will direct me so that he will be
photographed how and where he wants to be shown. In others we decide
together or I will just already know.
