Eric Dietrich: U.S. Naval War College

Eric Dietrich served in the United States Marine Corps from 2001 - 2005 before taking up photography. In 2008, he attended the New England School of Photography studying photojournalism and started working for himself in 2009. In October of 2010 he began working for the U.S. Navy as a mass communication specialist and then became the staff photographer for the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.

Eric writes, "I worked at the U.S. Naval War College as a staff photographer for much of 2012 and during that time I photographed a number of guest speakers. As I sorted through them later, it occurred to me that I could put together a small collection. Some of the photos are of the style that, if they were of a politician or celebrity, might have graced the pages of a newspaper. In others I tried to capture moments that one might overlook. Altogether, I tried to display a facet of military life that people might never know existed."

Kitty Ethridge: Gene's Sister Arrives

Gene's Sister Arrives at His Birthday Party ©2012 Kitty Ethridge
Not too long ago I had the pleasure of photographing a very special gentleman, Gene C.  It was his 90th birthday and the room was full of family and friends who had come to celebrate his life.  Clearly they all adored him.  This is a very loving family and a great amount of credit for this is due to Gene. All of them were unafraid to show emotion and affection for each another.  Gene himself led them in this regard. The last person to arrive at the party was his youngest sister.  He wasn't expecting her and so was very surprised to see her come in through the door.

It was the most poignant moment of the night.  Briefly she recognized him.  As she got closer to him her face lit up.  For a few minutes she was able to leave the yesterdays behind that are currently her realty and be in the present.  At least it seemed that way for the older brother she loved so much.

Occupy Boston: By Peter Leavitt

Documentary photography isn't really my thing, but I couldn't resist taking my Nikon down to join up and make some noise about some of the things that have been going wrong. So here are a few scenes from October 2011. Hopefully you find them more beautiful than political or documentary.

Ben Gebo 7/17/2011

In mid June, I went on a three week road trip across America. It's something I've done a few times before, but never as extensive and rigorous. We traveled 7,500 miles with stops in Louisville, Denver, Los Angeles, Fargo, and many other places(See the map http://goo.gl/9989q) with a lot of unscheduled stops along the way. I didn't plan out the route or destinations, just tagged along knowing I could have this be the start of a project or an addition to my travel portfolio. I think it's both. The only rule I gave myself while traveling was to photograph two people a day and have a camera around my neck whenever possible. Here are four portraits I took during my trip with a moleskine entry accompanying each picture. America is nicer, weirder, and more beautiful than you think.
