Issue 5 On Sale Now!

Last month's exhibition at the Washington Street Art Center in Somerville was a great success. There was an excellent turnout and copies of Issue 5 were flying off the table. If you didn't get a chance to purchase one at the show, please go online to HP MagCloud and pick up a copy. Enjoy the photographs of ten diverse photographers and an introduction written by Caitie Moore of Aint-Bad Magazine. All books come with a free digital copy for download.

C.R.I.T. Quarterly: Issue 5 Release Party

This is number FIVE! Saturday,October 5th, from 6:00 till 9:00 pm, C.R.I.T. will be having their 5th book release party. The Washington Street Art Center in Somerville, MA is generously hosting this event and an exhibition of our work. Artwork will be on display from now till October 13th.

The Fall 2013 issue includes the works of Traverse Day Robinette, Laura Miner, Hannah Bemelmans, Michael Powers, Nichole Elkins, Dina Shaposhnikova, Kitty Ethridge, and three new arrivals: Brian Fitzgibbons, Hannah Engelson and Kate Trenerry.

The introduction to this issue was written by Caitie Moore, photographer and co-founder of Aint-Bad Magazine.

Copies of Issue 5 will on sale at The Washington Street Art Center during the reception and will officially be available online at magcloud.com the same day.

C.R.I.T. Quarterly: Issue 4 Release Party

This Saturday, May 11th, from 6:00 till 9:00 pm, C.R.I.T. will be having their 4th book release party. Located at Refuge Cafe in Allston, MA, the members of C.R.I.T. will have their photographs on display from the day of the release till June 17th.

The Spring 2013 issue includes the works of Traverse Day Robinette, Laura Miner, Hannah Bemelmans, Michael Powers, Nichole Elkins, Dina Shaposhnikova, and Kitty Ethridge.

The introduction was beautifully written by Sarah Pollman, photo blogger and producer of the fine art photography publication 3200K.

C.R.I.T. Quarterly: Issue 3 Release Party

This month, we at C.R.I.T. are releasing the third issue of our quarterly book. This winter issue includes the photographic works of artists Kitty Ethridge, Ben Gebo, Beth A. Gilbert, Laura Miner, Traverse Day Robinette, Hannah Bemelmans, Michael Powers, and Dina Shaposhnikova.

In celebration of the release, please join us on Saturday, February 2nd from 7 pm - 9 pm at Redtail Studio, for an exhibition of photographs from the publication along with light refreshments.

Copies of Issue 3, along with limited copies of Issue 2, will be on sale at the reception. Issue 3 will also be available online beginning the day of the release; so stay tuned for the link on this blog!

Also, earlier on Feb 2nd, from 1pm - 6 pm, please visit our table at the Underground Artist & Burner Bazaar. Members of CRIT will be selling prints, along with copies of Issue 3.

Hannah Bemelmans: Scotland

These pictures are from Calanais, Isle of Lewis part of the Scottish Hebrides. Calanais has 12 sites of Standing Stones and Ruins. The main site is known as Calanais and it is a stone circle which contains a small chambered tomb and has five rows of massive stones emanating out from it--one for East, South, and West, but two for North, which form an avenue. It is about 5000 years old and, like the rest of the standing stones, people can only speculate as to it’s purpose for being built. As a New Englander, the Land is both familiar for it’s pastoral nature but also starkly foreign and melancholic as it is treeless, rocky, and surrounded by tidal lochs. Together the Land and the Stones elicited in me a profound emotional response, the feeling of connection to those ancient people and, understanding that although they are a mystery, the feeling that the Stones make sense.

Issue 2 Release Party: Another Excellent Night For Photography

On Saturday September 15th C.R.I.T. launched the second issue of our quarterly publication. It was a fabulous evening at Dowd Properties, the owner of which, Paula Dowd, generously hosted this event and exhibited our photographs.

It was a beautiful late summer evening in Davis Sq. and it is safe to say we had double the turn out from our last rollicking event at Aviary. It was very much a success.

Everyone from CRIT would like to thank our family, friends, and new friends for supporting us once again. Also, a special thanks to Paula Dowd for allowing us to use her business as a venue for this event and for exhibiting our photographs for the month of September.

Hannah Bemelmans: Iceland

These pictures are from Thingvellir, Iceland. Here you can see the rifts created by tectonic plate movement. These pictures are taken between the plates of North America and Eurasia. This is also the site of Iceland's first official government. When the settlers decided to create a singular government, they searched the land and decided on this place to assemble once a year to make laws and settle disputes.

Hannah Bemelmans

These picture were taken in Vermont where my dad moved to after he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease, about 15 years ago. I go up to visit and photograph every few months. I tend to photograph my Dad outside because the landscape is very important to him--it’s why he moved there--and to me, because I have a very emotional response to nature and photographing what I respond to helps me to communicate what I’m feeling. My Dad and I work very collaboratively when I take the pictures of him. In some pictures he will direct me so that he will be photographed how and where he wants to be shown. In others we decide together or I will just already know.
